Flash! Friday: Prompt #2-5

Welcome to my first Flash! Friday story of 2014! Hopefully, going forward, I can reestablish my weekly entries for this contest.

This week's prompt is right on the money for the beginning of the year, with the required element of time travel in a 150-word (+/- 10) story based on this photo:

This honestly isn't my favorite of my stories, but here goes:

Time and Place

“You’re kidding right?” Janie said, tossing the obviously altered print onto the drafting table.  “No one’s going to believe in a time travel portal within a hollowed-out old tree, big enough for cars to drive through. Even in a movie.”

“What’re you talking about?” Roger’s fingers found the edge of the discarded black-and-white photo.  “This one’s from the ‘Reported Cases’ file.”  He paused, entranced.  “Interesting possibility, though.  The location has never been found.”

“Because it doesn’t exist!  Look, it’s not exactly difficult to reach.”  Janie pushed away from the piled research to stalk about their office.  “People would be disappearing or popping in out of nowhere all the time.”

Roger hummed, still holding the print.  “You think it’s Photoshopped?”

“Probably.”

“Well, I don’t.”

“If not, it’s some nostalgic rich boy who went for a drive and used a filter. Or vintage camera,” she acceded.

“Forgive the interruption, madam,” an accented voice sounded from the doorway, “But I beg to differ.”

    1. Thanks, Sherry! The 150-word limit is proving surprisingly challenging.
