Flash! Friday: Prompt #3-12

And once again it's Friday, not to mention the end of February. An interesting prompt today from Rebekah, with this conflict:

Flash! Friday: Prompt #3-11

Technically, my entry to this week's Flash! Friday Fiction contest was a bit late, and therefore doesn't qualify, but since I wrote it (rather hastily), I thought I'd share.

This week's prompt required a 200-word story (+/- 10) incorporating this setting:

How Was Your Weekend?

So as I'm sure you've realized, I once again didn't manage to write for this past week's Flash! Friday contest. On the plus side, I have written song lyrics on behalf of a new character I'm introducing into the general world of Mending Heartstrings. I'm not sure yet whether her story will be a full-length novel or something shorter, but I am enjoying discovering her personality and world view a bit.

Meanwhile, the Pitch Madness pitch practice post is still available (contest opens Friday!) for anyone who needs it.

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's day if you celebrated, and a fantastic weekend even if you didn't. My weekend was filled with family, reading, an interesting Romance Writer chat on diversity, and writing of course. I'd love to hear what you did in the comments!

Pitch Madness Pitch Practice

Brenda Drake's Pitch Madness, Sorry! Edition is almost here — and that means it's time once again to prepare your pitches! Submission window opens February 20th. Submissions consist of a 35-word (max) pitch and the first 250 words of your manuscript. Remember you should only be submitting if your manuscript is complete, edited, and ready for an agent's eyes.

Shorter variations of your pitches (140 characters) can also be used for #PitMad on March 11th, even if your submission isn't chosen for the top 60 entries in Pitch Madness.

Last year, I opened up the comment section of my Pitch Madness post to those hoping to get some feedback on their pitches. People seemed to find that useful, so I'm doing it again!

  • Post your 35-word(max) pitch in the comments
  • Please offer constructive feedback on others' pitches
    • I will try to offer feedback as well, but I may not be able to respond to every post or revision, so please help each other!
  • Feel free to post revisions and share with others
  • Inappropriate or malicious comments will be removed at my discretion
    • Basically, please be polite

That's it! Feel free to also enter my 2-Year Anniversary Giveaway.

Flash! Friday: Prompt #3-9

As I mentioned last week, I am determined to get back into the swing of things with my Flash! Friday entries. For the first time in longer that I want to count, I've actually managed to write for this contest! Check out my attempt below, and don't forget to share your #FutureFriday post!

Flash! Friday has switched over to a new format, with 200-word stories (+/- 10) incorporating both a story element and a photo prompt. This week's element is the theme "a fleeting moment," in a story based on this photo:

2-Year Anniversary Party!

This week (Wednesday, to be precise) marks two years since I joined the online community with this blog, and today marks 2 months since the release of Mending Heartstrings, which of course means it's time to celebrate! [As an aside, the voting for Breathless Ink's Made For Each Other contest has started, and Kane & Sabella would love your vote!]

Looking back at some of my early posts has me both feeling nostalgic and understanding how far things have truly come in these two years. I began this blog about a week before finishing the first draft of Mending Heartstrings, back when I knew very little about the publishing world. I have since learned so much!
